Steevio - Rogue Patterns (Mindtours 08)

Steevio- Rogue Patterns Vol 2 (Mindtours 09)

Mindtours 06' ( Mindtours ) …. 'Steevio's label continues it's mission to make linear techno funk without succumbing to insipid minimalism. Mindtours' sixth release sees newcomer Leif deliver subtle percussion and deep chords on ‘Contentment' and ‘Green Futures', tracks with a less purist approach than the labels previous output. On the flip, Tom Ellis' ‘Dancing Drum' is an atmospheric drum-led affair, and Steevio's own ‘Ty' marks a return to the label's stripped down sound. Understated yet clubby, ‘06' is the strongest release to date.

Mindtours 05' ( Mindtours ) …”tribal techno grooves of high caliber from Wales based Steevio. Complex, shifting patterns accompanied by dubby, deep house and minimal techno sounds, whilst all the time not sacrificing dance floor appeal for technique. Definitely a tasty EP for those into this deep style ‘

Mindtours 05' ( Mindtours ) ‘ underground producer Steevio surfaces with the fifth installment of his Mindtours series… this time he dispenses with musical elements in favour of a more club friendly approach. ‘maroon' is a stripped down jacking track,.. While ‘ Samarkand ' sees Steevio add a lighter touch, with jazzy keys complimenting the linear rhythms. Not as deep as previous releases, this ‘Mindtours' is still the most dance floor friendly release'

Mindtours 04' ( Mindtours ) ….” touching the boundaries between techno and tech-house, these three releases from underground don Steevio show off his sublime mastery of electronic music. The A side is given over to a remix of ‘core' by Polish/Canadian producer Peter Sliwinski, where he takes a relaxed, old skool approach, moulding neat melodies with sharp beats to create a warm techno soundscape. Best of the bunch is 'Dusk' on the flip, where Steevio departs from his usual stark approach and adds some real flavour and melody. A wicked track that's as much deep house as techno . '

Mindtours 04' ( Mindtours ) ……..“ Ritchie Hawtin is a fan of Steevio, and listening to the dubby groove that constitutes 'Dusk', it's not hard to imagine the bespectacled one including the tracks funky drum elements in one of his less intense Final Scratch sets. It's a sound furthered on the Echoplex remix of 'Core', where the hypnotic deep techno is augmented by some deranged panning sounds. An understated release that strengthens Steevio's steadily growing reputation”

RICHARD BROPHY DJ MAGAZINE ( TECHNO REVIEWS)

'Mindtours 04' (Mindtours) More organic dance floor techno from this plucky Welsh label. Echoplex turns in a sublime mix of ‘Core' from ‘Mindtours 01', sweeping deep synth tones over lush pummeling beats, whilst on the B-side Mindtour's boss Steevio supplies a sturdy pair of loop-based cuts both recorded live: ‘Dusk' chugs out dark rhythms beneath layers of keys and chords, whilst ‘Intrinsic' also delivers, sending shivering midrange noises over muffled kicks and a throbbing bassline. Check.

Mindtours 03 ‘ ( Mindtours ) …….. “ producer Steevio's ‘Mindtours' series keeps on improving with every release, and the third installment sees him further explore the minimal themes he instigated on the first two releases. Not that 03 is all linear grooves either. The ‘ Tribal Chemistry Mix ‘ of Cloudseeders is deep dubby and quite spooky, but Steevio's main focus is still the dark brooding and quite complex minimalism evident on ‘ Nocturnia ‘. No wonder Ritchie Hawtin ‘s a big fan of the series “ …….

RICHARD BROPHY……….. DJ MAGAZINE

Mindtours 03 ‘ ( Mindtours ) ……… “ Producer Steevio provides two strong cuts here; ‘ Nocturnia is a flowing minimal tribal groove with pots and pans aplenty in the middle section, while ‘ Cloudseeders works much the same territory. Dr. Watson's remix goes even barer and more stripped, gradually building up the pressure. Subtle stuff with a raw edge. …….

Mindtours 03 ‘ ( Mindtours )………. ‘ this new dark sounding Mindtours cut gets me excited for two reasons. (1); all instrument volume levels are present and correct and (2); there's a serious style being developed here. This is one of those minimal groovers that you think makes no sense until 3 minutes through and suddenly everything comes together perfectly. Interesting .

MARK EG ….. WAX

Mindtours 03' ( Mindtours) More minimalist machine funk from deepest Wales, with label head honcho Steevio going head to toe with fellow Welshman Dr. Watson for further forays across the techno dance floor. As with previous Mindtours excursions, there's a distinct tribal tinge to all three constructions that'll suitably entertain jocks and punters alike, although it's the progressively warped rhythms and tones of 'Nocturnia' that'll see the most rotation.

Mindtours 02` ( Mindtours ) …. “ Phenomena is tribal dance floor material that boasts a spaciousness most functional techno lacks. Meanwhile “ Remote “, which was mixed live, is a more stripped down skeletal groove with a funky drum pattern and the same dub enhanced space as Phenomena. Funky techno with an organic edge.”

RICHARD BROPHY … DJ MAGAZINE

Mindtours 02' ( Mindtours) Former Roost-runner Steevio comes up trumps with the second release on his Mindtours imprint. 'Mindtours 02' features one live cut and also 'Steevio's first 909 only tune'; the live side is a gradually building slice of minimalism with an uplifting synth part whilst the 909 track shows off some deft use of this revered contraption using funky hi-hat filtering to give some top percussive bounce. Back to basics, and sounding fresh enough for it.

Mindtours 01 ` ( Mindtours ) ……. “ Steevio, the man behind various Techno labels in the past seems to have been working very hard indeed. I remember his style being Stol like, but now he's gone utterly left of centre and come up with something that sounds like Neil Landstrumm on speed. Thoroughly recommended, there's enough weirdness on here to last a lifetime ! “

MARK EG …. WAX

Mindtours 01` ( Mindtours ) …. “ Fresh from releasing tracks on Newcastle 's Adapted Vinyl, Steevio the chap responsible for labels Torque and Roost, launches his new imprint with a spread of highly synthetic tribal grooves. For the most part the music is heady and minimal, using edits sparingly, and filtering effectively. Only about half the tracks come with real bite, but the ones that do are innovative, funky and cleanly produced “

“ Mindtours” 'Detour EP' (Adapted) >RECOMMENDED< ….More funky synthetic pleasures from Newcastle's Adapted crew, with Steevio donning his Mindtours persona for a bouncy pair of techno cuts that get rebuilt in unique style by Adapted's Fast Breeder duo. Both Mindtours tracks develop maintaining plenty of space and movement, with the abstract metallic groove of 'Swerve' being the more accessible of the two,……..”
